General convention
diocese of chicago deputation
Each diocese of The Episcopal Church may elect four lay and four clergy deputies, and four lay alternates and four clergy alternates to the General Convention. The diocesan deputation to the 76th General Convention was elected at the 2007 Diocesan Convention. In addition to the deputies, both bishops of the Diocese of Chicago attend General Convention as members of the House of Bishops: Bishop Jeffrey Lee and Assistant Bishop Victor Scantlebury. Bishop Lee will be serving on the Prayer Book, Liturgy and Music legislative committee; and Bishop Scantlebury will be serving on the Privilege and Courtesy and the Church in Small Communities legislative committees. The full list of deputies and alternates is here. Read the biographical profiles of our deputies and alternates.
Deputies cannot be instructed to vote one way or another. They agree to have an open heart so that they can prayerfully listen to others and be led by the Holy Spirit. And they cannot refuse to vote on an issue.
