General convention 2009
summary of significant legislation

The legislative summary lists significant resolutions submitted to the 76th General Convention. The summary is organized by topic:  Anglican Communion, Calendar, Christian Formation, Church Structure and Governance, Economic Justice, Ecumenical Relations, Evangelism and Church Growth, Health, Israel and Palestine, Liturgy and Music, Ministry, and Social Justice. Separate columns indicate the legislative committee to which a resolution is assigned for review and recommendation, and its disposition (adoption by one House-no joint action required, concurrence, discharge, no action, rejection). Committee numbers are indicated in parentheses. Note: final concurrences that include amendments or substitutions are so noted.

Resolutions are coded A, B, C, or D depending on the category of the sponsores.

A Resolutions are submitted by Committees, Commissions, Agencies and Boards of The Episcopal Church and are the only resolutions and reports included in The Blue Book

B Resolutions are submitted by bishops

C Resolutions are submitted by dioceses

D Resolutions are submitted by deputies

The originating House can vote to adopt the resolution as presented, amend it or substitute other text for it, reject it, or refer it to a committee or group for additional study. If a resolution is adopted by one House, it then goes to the other House for concurrence. If the second House concurs then the resolution becomes an act of convention. If the second House amends it, the resolution returns to the originating House for action.
