About us - Office of the Bishop
Visitations

The Episcopal Church canons require diocesan bishops to visit each congregation in their diocese at least once every three years. The visits serve to strengthen the pastoral relationship between bishops and the clergy and congregations of their dioceses, help church members to be better informed of the faith and work being carried on throughout the diocese and the wider church, and provide an oportunity for the bishop to review and discuss parish ministry and management with local leaders.

Canon 12.1 directs that:

At every such visitation the visiting Bishop shall preside at the Holy Eucharist and at the Initiatory Rites, as required, preach the Word, examine the records of the Congregation required by Canon III.9.5(c), and examine the life andministry of the Clergy and Congregation according to Canon III.9.5

Both our bishops--Bishop Jeffrey Lee and Assistant Bishop Victor Scantlebury--make regular visits to congregations during the program year, September through June.
