Building the Church
"to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ." Ephesians, 4:12
Bishop Jeff Lee recently asked the people of the Diocese of Chicago a question: "How is it that you first fell in love with God? What did the church have to do with that event? Was it a sermon or a retreat? Was it the liturgy or the surprise discovery of God’s presence in another person? Was it serving those on the margins of this world? Was it your parish church or your parish priest? What first set your heart on fire for God? Can you remember? I want you to know that I consider all the possible answers there are in this room to that question to be the only legitimate reason for the institutional church, the only godly rationale for something like a diocese."
The Diocese of Chicago sponsors numerous ministries aimed at ushering skeptics, seekers and believers deeper into the mystery of God.
