Sustainability

The Diocese of Chicago Sustainability Task Force seeks to grow the church, form the faithful and change the world by integrating sustainable practices throughout the diocese.

This task force, authorized by a resolution at the 2008 Diocesan Convention, has been meeting since January 2009. To date it has accomplished the following:

  • Developed a sustainability initiative
  • Engaged clergy and leadership to discuss where sustainable practices apply to our church
  • Performed a diocesan-wide survey measuring needs and interests on sustainable activities
  • Partnered with Faith in Place, a local interfaith organization, for guidance and best practices from a sustainability perspective
  • Planned educational workshops for Diocesan Convention

Energy audits

Our mandate (from the 173rd diocesan convention, 2010) is as follows: RESOLVED, that each parish, mission, chaplaincy, and other entity of the diocese is hereby directed to perform an energy audit and develop an energy loss reduction plan within the next two years, with reports being submitted to the Sustainability Task Force.
