ministries - christian Formation

Christian Formation, A Life-Long Process.

Christian Formation is a life-long journey of faith development, of growing in our knowledge and love of God, equipping individuals and congregations to carry on Christ’s work of reconciliation in the world.

Christian Formation involves education for children, youth, and adults, but it also includes experience, prayer, spiritual disciplines, and liturgy to deepen our understanding of what it means to be a Christian in the contemporary world. It is as much about transformation as about information.

For information contact:

Debbie Buesing, Chair of the Christian Formation Commission

The Christian Formation Commission is part of the Diocesan Council and comprises a cluster of ministries that provide formative experiences for children, youth, and adults, both lay and ordained; serves as an information clearinghouse for training, materials, and programs; and works directly with congregations to provide consulting and support.

Christian Formation Opportunities

The Office of Christian Formation, along with related ministries such as the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, offer learning events throughout the year to nurture religious education and spiritual formation for children, youth and adults. These events act as creative catalysts for clergy and lay leaders to provide formative experiences in their own congregations and provide information, resources, and spiritual support.

Whose Church is it Anyway?

August 27 and 28  2010

The 2010 Whose Church is it anyway? conference for adults who work with children, youth and other adults is a two-day learning experience offered in collaboration with the Office of Youth, Campus & Young Adult Ministry.  What began as an event for youth ministers in our diocese has become a gathering of those who work with children, youth and adults not only in our own diocese but in the other dioceses of Province V.  The theme for the plenary sessions varies.  Learning experiences are interactive and include workshops, hands-on use of resources, experiencing a portion of a specific curriculum or program, brainstorming sessions for exploring questions and exchanging ideas and experiences.

In 2010, this program will be held August 27 - 28th,
at the
University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois.

For information contact Barbara Rasero 312-751-4206. Register online.

Diocesan Convention

Learning opportunities are a vital part of each Diocesan Convention.  Adults can choose from a rich variety of workshops each year on topics such as evangelism, cooperative ministry, Christian formation, peace and justice, leadership development, antiracism training, stewardship, fundraising, spirituality and mission.  Children ages 3-11 and Junior High students have parallel programs of their own based on that year’s convention theme.

The 173rd Annual Convention is November 19 and 20, 2010 at the Westin Hotel and Conference Center in Lombard.

Journey to Adulthood Leader Training

One day training session held each fall.

Leadership and Ministry Fair

Workshops cover the gamut of church ministry and program: congregational development, lifelong Christian formation, leadership development, ministry discernment, prayer and spiritual development, peace and justice, antiracism, safeguarding adults and children, financial management, church governance, and communication.
