ministries - christian Formation
Intergenerational Formation

Lifelong Christian Formation applies to all ages in the Episcopal Church, particularly in the Diocese of Chicago. Whether congregation based or diocesan sponsored, our trainings, workshops, and programs address formation as an ongoing process of deepening the experience and understanding or our faith journey and developing the confidence to live out our faith in the world.

The primary arena where all the baptized are formed is in our worship.

As we pray, so we believe.

Whose Church is it Anyway?  click here for more details

Friday and Saturday

August 27-28th

The Whose Church is it Anyway? event is a two-day learning experience offered in collaboration with the Office of Youth, Campus & Young Adult Ministry.  What began as an event for youth ministers in our diocese has become a gathering of those who work with children, youth and adults not only in our own diocese but in the other dioceses of Province V.  The theme for the plenary sessions varies.  Learning experiences are interactive and include workshops, hands-on use of resources, experiencing a portion of a specific curriculum or program, brainstorming sessions for exploring questions and exchanging ideas and experiences.

In 2010, this program will be held August 27 - 28th,
at the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois.

MIQRA WEEKEND

MIQRA (meek-rah, Hebrew word referring to the Hebrew Bible, also known as the Tanakh) is an event happening over the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in the Diocese of Chicago. This event, created by the Diocese of Kansas in 2002, has at its heart a reading of the complete Bible. Volunteer readers rotate day and night through 72 hours of reading, an endeavor which honors the significance of scripture in the Episcopal tradition and offers the opportunity to directly experience the text in its entirety.

The 2010 MIQRA in the Diocese of Chicago was held Friday, January 15, Saturday January 16 and Sunday January 17 at St. James Cathedral, Chicago. Volunteer readers rotated reading in the cathedral Friday eveinng through Sunday night into Monday morning.

Participants will stayed overnight Saturday and Sunday, maintaining the reading throughout the time and exploring the Bible through group exercises, games, movies and worship.

Learn more about MIQRA at the MIQRA website.
