The Church of St. Paul and the Redeemer is a progressive, diverse faith community of fellowship and service located on the near south side of Chicago, sharing a neighborhood with the academically and culturally rich University of Chicago, and blocks from Lake Michigan. The congregation seeks a full-time, ordained Assistant Rector to take part in the pastoral leadership of the parish with particular focus on further building exceptional children and youth programming in a dynamic Episcopal Church in the Hyde Park/Kenwood Neighborhood of Chicago. The Assistant Rector would also provide liturgical leadership, share in the administration of the church, and participate in senior level decision-making regarding the church's strategy, policy, and programs.

Grace Episcopal Church

Grace Episcopal Church is a moderately progressive parish in historic Galena, IL, a town of 3,400 nestled among the hills of northwestern Illinois. The congregation has an ASA of 70 to 80 persons and an average age over 55, with one third of parishioners having belonged for over ten years, several more than twenty. They describe themselves as a group of inclusive and diverse Episcopalians with traditional tendencies both liturgically and theologically. The goals and challenges the congregation is passionate about include strengthening outreach to young families, further developing their existing lay pastoral ministries, and increasing their ability to expand their Christian formation program.

St. Luke's Episcopal Church

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is located in Dixon, a town of 16,000 people situated along the Rock River in the northwest corner of Illinois. One-hundred miles west of downtown Chicago, Dixon is the economic center of its county. It boasts the most parks per capita in the state which encourages and attracts outdoor and recreation enthusiasts. St. Luke’s has a strong music ministry program and is home to the world-renown Canterbury Singers. They also have an active book club. Parishioners are proud of the installation and effective use of solar panels on their church grounds in response to the diocesan call to environmental sustainability and responsible stewardship of the earth. The congregation has established a relationship with orphanages in Zimbabwe and sends or brings support there annually. This relationship has expanded the collective worldview of the congregation and blessed them tremendously. In addition to growing these strong ministries, St. Luke’s recognizes the following goals: to offer high-quality Christian formation and education for all including an active youth group, to design and implement a comprehensive outreach strategy, and to develop a fresh approach to stewardship through alternative income approaches and otherwise. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, founded in 1895, is located in Park Ridge, Illinois, a vibrant community located 15 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. St. Mary’s has an Average Sunday attendance of about 220 and serves approximately 150 children and youth. Worship, formation and outreach are the strongest elements of communal life at this lively, progressive and welcoming congregation. All are welcome at St. Mary’s without exception. The mission of St. Mary’s is to rejoice in the love of God as revealed in Jesus Christ and to share that love with all people. The congregation is currently seeking a Part-time Assistant to/Associate Rector (title commensurate with experience).

Reporting to the Rector, the Assistant to/Associate will be responsible for developing and leading ministries that deepen the spiritual life of the congregation and surrounding community on a part-time basis. He/she will primarily direct Christian formation programming and secondarily share worship leadership and liturgy planning; provide pastoral care; work with the Vestry; and act as senior minister in the Rector’s absence.

Taking into account modern family life, the candidate will develop and lead programs that provide spiritual nurture, support and meaningful relationship with children and youth, caring for them as they move from childhood to adulthood.

The qualified candidate has earned a Masters of Divinity Degree or beyond; have strong worship, preaching and liturgy planning skills; possess a passion for working with children and youth – helping them explore their faith in a safe and loving environment; have a minimum of 1-3 years experience working with children and youth either in a faith-based organization or educational institution; have the ability to model and instill Christian values and help children of all ages explore their faith and their doubts and develop a healthy relationship with God or not; have a passion for working with all ages in pastoral care, faith development and mission; have a minimum of 1-3 years of pastoral and worship experience; possess outstanding relationship building and communication skills demonstrated by the ability to connect with all age groups; demonstrate strong leadership skills – the maturity to appreciate the strength and tradition of existing programs - along with the vision to lead change and implement new programs; be able to recognize individual gifts and call volunteers to ministry; be approachable, available, a good listener, fun; have the skills and passion for leadership development; be a creative thinker; be able to delegate, mentor and work collaboratively with other staff, clergy, leaders and volunteers; attends to his or her own faith needs through spiritual reflection and attendance at conferences/seminars

St. Paul Episcopal Church

St. Paul Episcopal Church is located in McHenry, IL, a town of just under 27,000 people located 50 miles northwest of Chicago. The congregation describes itself as a family-sized parish that values hospitality and is dedicated to their many outreach ministries. St. Paul is home to Little Cherubs Preschool, which is in the process of developing a dual language curriculum. Among their strong outreach ministries are the St. Paul Diaper Bank Partnership – the model for which is being used across the country – and Betts’ Place, an initiative in which properties bequeathed to the church are used as homes for veterans working toward transitioning into civilian life.

St. Augustine Episcopal Church is spiritual home to 430 members with an ASA of 134 – one-third of total membership. The church is located in Wilmette, Illinois, (pop. 27,000), just 16 miles north of Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan. The congregation is known in the diocese for their active outreach grant program, gifting $20,300 in local, national, and international support in 2010. In addition to financial support, St. Augustine ministers extensively to their local community through facility use. Rosehill Montessori is joined by several social service and support groups in their use of the building. The membership of St. Augustine is of diverse age, well-educated, progressive, and open-minded and yearns for ongoing adult formation and guidance to a deepening spirituality practice. Parishioners name identifying a renewed mission and vision, growing outreach through enhanced communication, revitalizing the existing music program, and establishing an effective Christian formation program and schedule as the key goals they hope to tackle with their future new rector. They identify their growing edges as: increasing Episcopal culture in their congregation, identifying and engaging in personal ministries, and living into their baptismal covenant.

The membership of St. Augustine seeks a rector who is excited about the above named goals and growing edges. The next rector of St. Augustine Episcopal Church shall be a compassionate pastoral care-giver for congregation’s aging members, a strong preacher, an engaging youth leader, respectful of consensus and the parish’s history of process-oriented governance, passionate about Christian formation, able to balance intellect and spirituality in both sermon and personal interaction, and a shrewd administrator. The congregation discerns a need for a leader who will assist them in developing an expansive view of St. Augustine’s future that will help them grow both in membership and in relationship with Christ.
