Bishop's Advent Appeal 2018

December 3, 2018

Dear Friends in Christ:

In this holy season of Advent, rich with hope and possibility, I write to ask you to join me in supporting work that manifests the light of Christ in congregations and communities across our diocese.

When you contribute to the Bishop’s Appeal, you support the work that my staff and I do to strengthen congregations for vital mission and ministry. During 2018, we’ve placed special emphasis on helping congregations to help themselves.

When you contribute to the appeal, you support the work of Andrea Mysen and her team who have begun to share the insights of the College for Congregational Development throughout our diocese, nurturing resourceful homegrown leaders in more than 123 congregations.

When you contribute to the appeal, you support the work of Victor Conrado, associate for ministries, who helps congregations to view transitions in clergy leadership as opportunities to engage in self-study and reflection, heal divisions, set fresh goals and move forward with renewed commitment to mission.

And when you support the appeal, you support our most rollicking ministry, Camp Chicago, where Chad Senuta and his energetic staff give children the times of their lives while helping them make lasting friendships and experience the love of God and the warmth of a caring, Christian community.

In my years as your bishop, I’ve come to understand that the seeds of transformation are sown most effectively through the day-to-day ministry of congregations in their home communities. My work is to enhance your work. The same is true of my capable and committed staff. But the degree to which we can do that depends in some measure on your generosity. So, as we prepare to celebrate the birth of the Savior who opens his arms to us all, I hope you will consider a generous gift to the Bishop’s Appeal.

Faithfully,

The Rt. Rev. Jeffrey D. Lee, Bishop of Chicago
