Sustainability Task Force at the White House

September 12, 2012

Lisa Rogers Lee, co-chair of the Diocese of Chicago's Sustainability Task Force, will participate on a panel at an upcoming White House Conference: "Greening America's Congregations through Energy Efficiency: A Call to Action."

The conference, to be held in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the White House compound on September 13, will encourage houses of worship to:

  • actively benchmark energy use in EPA's ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager
  • improve energy efficiency by 20 percent or more
  • earn ENERGY STAR® certification for top performance.

The Diocese of Chicago became an ENERGY STAR® partner in December 2011. At that time, Jerry Lawson, national manager of ENERGY STAR® Small Business & Congregations Network of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, said, "The Diocese of Chicago is the largest faith based group in the country to take on something of this scale."
