Bishop Lee on the Historic Election of Bishop Michael Curry
June 27, 2015
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
Today bishops and deputies of the Episcopal Church made history. Set within the context of prayer and singing at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Salt Lake City, bishops elected the Rt. Rev. Michael Curry to serve as the 27th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church and the House of Deputies has confirmed. His election was consented to with great enthusiasm by the House of Deputies. I rejoice at the election of Bishop Curry. He is a man of enormous joy, energy and capability. He is the first African American Presiding Bishop. And most importantly he is a passionate follower of Jesus Christ who believes that the death and resurrection of Christ is the best news there could possibly be. I look forward to working with Bishop Curry in the years to come as we continue to share the gospel. Thanks be to God.
Faithfully in Christ,
