Prayer Vigil and Service of Healing on June 15

June 15, 2016

Join Bishop Lee and Dean Barrington on Wednesday, June 15, at 5:30 pm at St. James Cathedral for a vigil and service of healing to commemorate the shootings at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando on Sunday.
The service will include readings from scripture, poetry by Dylan Thomas and W.H. Auden, readings from HuffPost Queer Voices, and psalms, as well as a piano composition titled "Threnody" by contemporary composer Carl Vine, prayer, burning of incense, lighting of candles, and chanting of the names of all who died in Orlando. Members of ResonaTe, Chicago's trans choir, will lead songs and prayer chants.
The service will conclude with an invitation to take action against gun violence, homophobia, and Islamophobia. After the final hymn, people may remain for prayer, anointing, counsel with the St. James pastoral team, or conversation.
