Animal Blessings Across Our Diocese

In honor of St. Francis, many celebrations and blessings of animals will take place across our diocese in the coming weeks.
Saturday, October 1:
The Rev. Gina Volpe, rector of Holy Nativity, Chicago will bless the dogs on the Domestic Violence Walk, 22nd district CAPS of Chicago Police Department at 1900 Monterrey at 9:30 am
St. Paul’s, Peoria Blessing of Pets at 10:30 am in front of the doors facing War Memorial Drive or, in the event of rain, inside the Nave.
St. Paul & the Redeemer, Chicago invites its animal friends to the SPR Garden for a special blessing service at 2 pm, followed by treats for humans and animals.
St. Nicholas, Elk Grove Village will bless all God’s creatures at the 4:30 pm liturgy
Sunday, October 2:
Emmanuel, Rockford St. Francis of Assisi Pet Blessing - You are welcome to bring your beloved animal to worship at all services for a special blessing (8 am, 9 am and 10:30am). Please be sure all animals are on leash or in appropriate carriers.
Holy Nativity, Chicago will bless all pets during the 9:30 am service. All pets will receive a certificate of blessing and coffee hour will feature Milk-bones and Kitty Pounce.
The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, Elmhurst will hold a Pet Blessing during the 10 am service. Please bring pets on leash or in a carrier.
Grace, Chicago will hold its Annual Pet Blessing at 10 am. Chicago’s mounted police will attend, schedule permitting.
Trinity Church, Highland Park holds its Annual Pet Blessing Service at 10:00 am, along with a fundraiser for Tails of Hope, a no-kill animal shelter in Highland Park.
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, DeKalb will host a Community Pet Blessing Celebration at 1 pm. Pets of all sizes are welcome to attend as St.Paul’s has ample parking for larger pets and livestock. Photographs may also be brought to honor pets who prefer not to travel.
Church of the Holy Nativity in Clarendon Hills is having its Pet Blessing on Sunday, October 2 at 2 pm at its outdoor altar (indoors if inclement weather)
Annunciation of Our Lady, Gurnee will hold its pet blessing at 3 pm in the St. Francis garden (weather permitting) or in the church social hall.
St. Paul’s, McHenry will have a Blessing of the Animals at 3 pm.
St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Glen Ellyn will hold its Blessing of the Animals at 3 pm in the church courtyard
St. James Cathedral will hold a Choral Evensong & Blessing of the Animals at 4 pm. Bring your animal companions and gather on the plaza at 3:45 pm for a grand procession into the cathedral for the service and blessing. Music will include "Rejoice in the Lamb."
St. John the Evangelist, Flossmoor, will join with Faith Lutheran Church and First Presbyterian Church of Homewood for the Blessing of the Pets on Sunday, October 2, beginning at 4:30 pm at the outdoor altar of St. John the Evangelist. Prizes will be offered for "Rector Look-alike"; "Owner-Pet Look-alike"; The Most Pious Pet"; and "The Most Vocal Evangelist". Children in the parish serve as judges.
Saturday, October 14
Holy Comforter, Kenilworth will hold its Blessing of Animals during their Fall Festival on Saturday, October 14. The festival runs from 10 am to 12 pm and includes a hayride around town, popcorn, corn dogs, pumpkins and fall arrangements for sale, with the blessing falling right in the middle, around 11 am.
Saturday, October 22
St. George Episcopal Church, Macomb will host a Pet Blessing and Pet Food Drive for their food pantry on Saturday, October 22. The blessing will be held at a local park and the community is invited to particpate. St. George's will be joined by The Humane Society and those bringing pets for blessings are asked to donate dog or cat food to the pantry. For more information contact the church by email or the Rev.
