Spring Bishop's Appeal Exceeds Goal
June 07, 2017
The spring Bishop’s Appeal exceeded its goal of $90,000, Shay Craig, associate for resource development, announced on Wednesday.
The campaign, which began after Easter, and concluded on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, raised $94,425, said Craig. The yearly goal for the appeal is $180,000, and a campaign to reach the total will begin in Advent.
In future years, Craig intends to conduct even more of the appeal’s fundraising during the spring, since many congregations hold stewardship campaigns during the fall.
The bishop’s appeal provides funding for the bishop’s staff, which directs programs including the College for Congregational Development, Fierce Conversations, Project Resource, and other initiatives aimed at fostering congregational vitality. It also supports congregations during clergy transitions and other periods of change.
“Across our diocese, we are helping more people develop the resources they need to live into God’s abundance,” said Bishop Jeffrey Lee in an Easter letter soliciting donations to the fund. “We are doing church in innovative ways that speak to wider, more diverse congregations. We are delving into the centuries-old traditions of our church and finding new meaning. We are transforming people’s lives, and in doing so we are transforming our church.”
