Facilitator Training on Legacy of Slavery Study Guide Now Available
January 17, 2018
Saturday, February 17 at St. James Commons, sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese Antiracism Commission
Bishop Lee has enthusiastically charged each congregation to fulfill the convention resolution inviting us to spend the next year in conversation "on the impact of the legacy of slavery and segregation and discrimination in its local context" based on the Legacy of Slavery Taskforce Report.
The Pathway to Reconciliation is the congregational study guide for the Legacy of Slavery Taskforce Report. Facilitators will be trained in using the study guide to lead their congregation to work toward meaningful, faithful and redemptive transformations on the Pathway to Reconciliation. Facilitator training is Saturday, February 17 from 9 am to 3 pm at St. James Commons (65 E. Huron St., Chicago).
Facilitation is essential to ensuring that potentially difficult conversations which arise will not be about shaming or blaming but about acknowledging how our past impacts our present and future. All congregations are requested to send one or more volunteers for training. Please note: facilitators need to have attended a Crossroads "Understanding and Analyzing Systemic Racism Workshop" prior to the facilitator training within the last five years. See below for upcoming training opportunities.
Registration deadline is Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Please register online.
Please note: a second facilitator training is being planned for mid-April for those who are taking the 2.5 day antiracism workshop at St. James Commons March 15 - 17 and for those who can't attend the first training. The date and location for the April facilitator training will be updated as soon as it is available.
